Why is this the hardest section to write? When most people tell you about them, what do they say? They tell you about their job, their eductation, their hobbies, how they spend their time. Well, I did that already. And none of that stuff really defines me anyways. So let me see if I can go beyond the basic introduction, and give you some insight into who I really am.
I think the most overarching thing about me is that I am infinitely curious. Strange way to start, I know, but this trait manifests itself in so many ways in me. It's curiosity that drives me to learn. And I'm in a constant state of learning. Important stuff (career related items), recreational stuff (how to become a better powerlifter), and also completely irrelevant stuff (did you know that crows have the problem solving skills of an average 5 year old?). It gets me in trouble sometimes too...ask me about the time I got lost in the desert with my seven year old son. But it's a constant driver of who I am, and what I do.
I'm a helper. In all ways. A friend needs to move? I'm there moving the fridge and the couch. Have a question about something I know a little bit about? I'll give you the answer, and if you want to know, I'll teach you a little about the subject too. Need a friend to just listen while you are going through something? I will be there, and give you the chance to let it out, without judgement or interruption. As much time as you need. And I always keep one eye open for people in need. A door needing to be opened, a heavy item needing to be lifted, or anything where a helping hand will make life just a little easier, and I'm there. Without asking.
My demeanor is calm, nearly all of the time. I was once asked what the title of my autobiography would be, and my initial response was definitely the most accurate, "Calm in the Face of Chaos". I've worked in retail hell during holidays, with people all over, product everywhere, the sound of everything so loud that you couldn't hear the person next to you. And yet, I stayed calm, and executed the plan. It's also that way in my personal life. Personal tragedy can strike, and rather than freak out, and possibly make a dumb decision, I stay calm, and rational, and do what I think is the right thing, not necessarily the thing that feels good. Can I get excited? Oh yeah, you should have seen me when the Philadelphia Eagles finally won the Super Bowl. Can I be intense? Absolutely, especially when I'm in the groove at work, and concentrating very hard on something complex. But most of the time, I'm relaxed, cool, and at peace.
Some last descriptors would be that I love children and animals, I can be playful and silly, I take my health very seriously (physical and mental), and I'm active and fit. I'm an intellectual, a problem solver, and very logical. And lastly, I'm compassionate, extremely loyal, and my most important job in the world is the job of dad. And that's the job I take the most seriously.
There's definitely more to me. I guess you'll just have to talk to me to find out the rest.
